Located in Northeastern Oklahoma's Green Country , Grand Lake is the fun place to laugh, love and be merry! There is always something going on ... places to go, things to see & things to do and right in the middle of this fantastic area is a Monkey Island tradition created 30 years ago by Larry & Joyce Duke. Joyce is the Mistress of Mishief who established and presides over the shananagans. Not only is it one of the best eateries at Grand Lake, it has created fun you can't imagine and raised untold dollars to help people and children in need.

Monkey Island is the hub of Grand Lake's night life
The Shebang is at the Mid-Point of Monkey Island OK.
Monkey Island offers lots of entertainment ranging from a 50's style night club to live entertainment year round. The Shebang is in the heart of it all. Some of the lake's best restaurants at Grand Lake are located here including The Shebang which many locals consider one of the best on the lake. If you're lucky enough, you might even catch one of Monkey Island's spirited celebrations. Many of thses were created by the Mistress of Mischief, including the Egret Festival in September, The Suck Off, The Croak Off and more. Most of these are adult in nature and in the spirit of risque vaudville type renderings. The Island is easy to reach. By land, it's a short drive off I-44. Small planes and jets from Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Wichita, Joplin, Dallas, Kansas City and Little Rock land at the Monkey Island Airport or the Grand Lake Regional Airport. The Shebang can be seen from the airport so you might even be able to get a ride.
Bottom line is that Monkey Island OK is a great place to have fun of all kinds at Grand Lake.
Monkey Island and the West side of Grand Lake is where to go if you want diversity. There is plenty of appeal for its' setting as well as home to some great fishing, nightlife and shopping. Nature lovers can enjoy horseback riding on Monkey Island or walk the Bernice State Park's nature trails... o r, cruise miles of back roads, on foot or bicycle motor vehicle. Condos, cabins and RV parks offer a variety of accommodations. There are fantastic private homes, condominiums and golf courses. You'll find several marinas that will rent the perfect lake transportation, help you stock your cooler, and send you off for all the fun you can handle. |
